Check out this video. I think I like it, but I’m not positive yet. It’s so well done that I’m kind of taken by the aesthetics, however, I’m not sure that this makes cell biology easier to understand. What’s your opinion?

It is a nifty video, but yeah I don’t feel it makes it easier to understand cell biology. I believe the first exposure I had to these concepts was back in the sixth grade. The classroom provided science textbook just used a lot of 3-D illustrations of both plant and animal cells. It seemed simple enough understand at the time and I appreciated having a visual that was representing the actual thing being described.
The problem with this video is that it is trying to relate the process of cell biology and replication with a visual of something else. If I did not have previous knowledge of what cells really looked like from the inside, I think this video would have confused me rather than enlighten me because all I would associate with cells is a factory and robots. I still wouldn’t understand what cells really looked like from the inside to have a more tangible visual of the actual cell. I’m not sure if the way I’m stating my opinion makes sense…but that’s what I think of this video.

I feel the same way, but I was curious if it was just me. Despite enjoying the video, I was having a devil of a time tying to figure out what each scene stood for. I also want’t sure at first if each scene depicted part of a cell or different kinds of cells within a single multicellular organism.
I understand how cells work pretty well, but I didn’t know what these robots were doing.
